The idea for a house system came to me while I was working in Campus Ministry and Student Activities at Saint Mary's College High School. As we had an opportunity to start both programs from scratch at Cristo Rey De La Salle High School, we fleshed out the idea further and wrapped it around the idea of joining a subset of families that spanned grade levels. I always bemoaned the idea that Frosh students were at the bottom of the ladder and that Seniors were at the top. It was a way to level the hierarchy a little. Since then it has evolved to encompass student leadership and government, a competitive aspect is now part of the equation, and even adults on campus are part of various casas. All aspects of this particular program were chosen with intention, as all good Lasallian Catholic programs should be.
